The PR Office organises data privacy breakfast debate for Hunton & Williams at Fortnum & Mason’s
As part of The PR Office’s ongoing work in raising the profile of Hunton & Williams’ UK Privacy and Cybersecurity practice, the team recently assisted with the organisation of a media breakfast briefing, focusing on the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) – due to take effect in May 2018.

Bojana Bellamy, President of Huntons’ Centre for Information Policy Leadership (a global policy think tank) presented to a selection of key media in Fortnum & Mason’s drawing room. The purpose of the breakfast briefing was to not only engage journalists with a focus on technology and data, but to highlight the importance of this legislation on wider business. To that end, we were delighted that international news outlet Forbes was in attendance, as well as many other key titles.

Entitled The New EU Data Protection Regulation – a catalyst for sea change in EU privacy and data protection? The aim of the breakfast briefing was to discuss the potential impact of the new GDPR to business and;

*     Key changes and compliance obligations under the GDPR
*     How GDPR will impact organisations, regulators, governments and people
*     What organisations are doing to prepare for change
*     What role can technology play in EU Privacy and data protection
*     Results from the AvePoint and Centre for Information Policy Leadership first global survey to benchmark organisations’ readiness for the GDPR

With other publications, including IT Pro Portal, Infosecurity and in attendance, the event was also a fantastic opportunity to organise a selection of one-on-one follow ups with Bojana after the briefing. The event was co-hosted with Dana Louise Simberkoff, Chief Compliance and Risk Officer, at AvePoint, a software vendor and manufacturer.
Hosting events such as these is an effective way of achieving tier one media results by putting a client in front of key targets without being too time intensive. Events also act as an opportunity for a client to demonstrate their expertise and knowledge, in detail – far more so than in a press release, comment or even media briefing.
